What do I need to license my pet(s)?
You will need to provide proof of your pet’s current rabies vaccination, microchip and spay or neuter (if applicable).
A valid ID or driver's license is also required at the time of applying for a pet license.
How much does is cost to license my pet?
Altered: 1 year $20 - 3 year* $60
Unaltered: 1 Year $60 - 3 year* $180
Senior**: 1 Year $2 - 3 Year* $6
*3-year license requires your pet have a current 3-year vaccination, which requires (2) rabies vaccinations within a 12-month period to qualify.
** Senior discount applies only for residents 60 years old or older with spayed or neutered pet(s).
** Senior discount can not be done at a clinic and must be done directly with Harris County Veterinary Public Health.

Why do I need a pet license?
All pets over the age of three months are required by law to have a current rabies vaccination and pet license in unincorporated Harris County. All cats and dogs in unincorporated Harris County over the age of 3-months are required to maintain a pet license through the county. Violations of Harris County animal regulations can result in a citation and fine up to $500.
